In this incalculably fast-paced society we live in, we have probably forgotten to care of the very basics in the survival of life which is maintaining healthy lifestyle. The human bodies are undeniably the most beautiful and at the same time a sophisticated machine like structure in the creation of nature. This machine too needs pampering, rest and utmost care at regular intervals. It is definitely not wrong to sit back some day and decide to take a break for yourselves. Instead of discussing about maintaining healthy lifestyle, we have been actually pushed to a situation wherein we have to uphold at least the fundamentals of good lifestyle which seems to be shockingly missing today.
Statistics say that Diabetes currently has affected almost 62 million Indians, which is more than 7.1% of the total adult population. The average age of onset is 42.5 years as per the survey. A study by the American Diabetes Association says that India will see the greatest increase in people diagnosed with diabetes by 2030.
Isn’t that staggering? Was this the scenario a few decades back?
Let us together analyze what has changed altogether…
Healthy diet:
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper” is a well-known quotation by American author and nutritionist Adelle Davis. This literally means that we should be giving maximum importance to breakfast and eat a heavy morning meal. “Breakfast” as the name suggests is “breaking fast of the night”. Our body sleeps through the night and wakes up hungry. Breakfast should serve the body with all the required nutrients to help it remain energetic until lunch time. Lunch should be less heavy on the stomach than the breakfast and dinner should be the lightest meal of the day as the body retires to sleep. This routine when coupled with healthy vegetables, fruits, millets, and meat does the trick to keep the body fit.
Exercise regularly:
A sedentary lifestyle will definitely lead to health problems, the biggest being obesity. Make it a point to exercise daily for at least 20 min. Be it simple walking or working out in a gym under the supervision of an experienced trainer, sweating out every day is highly required.
Stay hydrated:
Drink lots of water and avoid fizzy drinks. Consciously drink water for your body to flush out unnecessary toxins and ease out the digestion process. Say a strict no to junk food and fizzy drinks as it paves the way to add on bad cholesterol and fat in the human body.
Sleep well, say bye to stress:
Have a sound sleep without your mind wavering. Have a stress free lifestyle. Learn to manage and prioritize your work list and allocate time for everything including a deep sleep.
Maintaining healthy lifestyle is not a herculean task and requires no rocket science. It is grounded on religiously following few basics of life which we might have overlooked as unimportant. Essentially, it is simply accepting the environment we live in, adapt to it and be content!
