  • Do not store food just because you want to. If you feel you would anyway be disposing of the leftover without using it, do it right away. Storing small quantities of leftover food only helps boost bacterial growth thereby affecting the quality of other food also.
  • Make sure to cover whatever has been stored. This will help reduce the consumption of energy, mixing of food odor in the fridge and spillage.
  • Maintain neat containers to store different food items. Do not mess up. This will help you understand what you have and don’t have in the first place.
  • Ensure to defrost your refrigerators and freezer at equal intervals of time and clean up if required.
  • Be cautious not to use heavy bottomed vessels in your fridge to reduce power consumption.

United States Food and Drug Administration advices the user to refrigerate food at 40 degrees F or below in order to reduce the food borne illness issues.

Keeping track of your electric bill:

A refrigerator keeps absorbing power every minute of it being used. You could save power and slash down your bill to a great extent through minor changes and corrections while using this appliance.

  • Always keep the door closed. This keeps the temperature from fluctuating inside the fridge and hence saves power.
  • Place your fridge one or two inches away from the wall. You wouldn’t believe that this frees the condenser coils and saves energy till 40%.
  • Check your door for any leaks. Keep track of maintenance.
  • Avoid putting hot food into the fridge right away. Instead, let it cool to room temperature and then stack it away.

Keep going, consciously care for your refrigerator and bang your bucks!
