“A great cognac is above all a great white wine.”
The Birth of Hine
The House of Hine has two birth dates: 1763, when the distillery was founded on the right bank of the river Charente, and 1817, when Thomas Hine gave his name to this House. After six generations, Bernard Hine is now guardian of his family’s ethos: a great cognac is above all a great white wine.
The identity of Hine comes from the village of Bonneuil, where 70 hectars of Ugni Blanc grapes provide the ingredients for the blending process. Here, the aim is not to mask the flavours with dominant woody tones, but to enhance them as part of a delicate exchange between the eau-de-vie and oak staves.
This finesse is the result of two key choices made during the manufacturing of the barrels: the selection of wood with a very fine grain and the light toasting it then receives. The results is a superior quality cognac, since 1962 the only official supplier of cognac to the British monarchy.
