Mobiles are more than mobilizing us

It is undeniable that we live in a fully mobilized society. From school kids to senior citizens, mobile technology have become a compelling necessity without which our lives tend to become paralyzed. We are in a situation to rethink if is this addictive behavior of our society for the good? Is this uncontrollable dependence on mobiles going to help us or have a seriously negative impact?

Mobile technology and us:

Mobile technology is definitely a boon when considering its unparalleled capabilities of connecting people across the globe irrespective of their geographical distances. You could finish off major tasks from the palm of your hand from anywhere and at any time. Point and click applications on your mobile could ease several tasks and also save the huge amount of time specifically when it comes to time-consuming formalities. When it comes to the business space, critical business scenarios could be easily handled at any time by just clicking away. Mobile technology was intended to make people omnipresent whenever required and it has very well served this purpose.

The other side of the coin…

Though mobiles have helped us socialize across boundaries and made redundant tasks simpler, it also associates with few major loopholes. These hiccups, however, depend on the way people use it. Over use of a mobile could have the serious impact on our health as well as social lives. It could usher behavioral changes depreciating the quality of social life.

A study by “Flurry” which is a digital analytics firm says that a person spends at least three hours a day on a mobile which accounts for one full day a week! Why wouldn’t we complain that we do not find time for major tasks in that case?

A drill down:

Lack of concentration:

Studies say that when a person tends to spend more time staring at any device screen, they become less productive on the work front and lazy as an individual. This person lags in concentration with not being able to focus on major tasks and being uncertain. Mobiles tend to urge us when a notification or alert comes in. The very sound of the beep triggers our curiosity which subsides only after checking the content of the message. This could prove fatal especially when driving and in the middle of critical tasks. It also induces traits of uncertainty and low confidence on the broader front.

Poor social behavior:

We now a days prefer sticking on to our mobile phones rather than speaking to people. Physical interaction has taken a back seat to a great extent hitting hard on the quality of our lifestyles. Instant messaging, content sharing does save time but it does not replace the feeling of meeting up close friends and relatives.

Impact on health:

Constant exposure to mobile radiation has been immensely responsible for the increasing cases of brain tumors and cancer over the recent years, especially in children.

As rightly told “Accept responsibility for your actions” and utilize the outcome of technological development the best way possible it is meant to be.
